Setup in Unreal Engine

With our meshes and splines exported to fbx, let’s move to Unreal Engine to setup the fur.

1. Start with new, empty level.
2. Make sure the meshes (in “Content\RedDeer_SplineGuides\”) have correct materials assigned. “RedDeer_Base” mesh should be assigned with “Content\Materials\RedDeer-MAT” and “RedDeer_GrowMesh“ mesh should be assigned with “Content\Materials\RedDeer_Fur-MAT”.
3. Drag and drop the “RedDeer_Base” mesh into the vieport.
4. Add a new gFur component.
5. Drag and drop “RedDeer_GrowMesh” into the “Grow Mesh” slot in the gFur component.
6. Drag and drop “RedDeer_SplineGuides” into the “Fur Splines” slot in the gFur component.
7. Done!
8. You can now tweak different parameters in gFur component and in the “Content\Materials\RedDeer_Fur-MAT”. You may wish to duplicate the fur material and re-assign it to _GrowMesh to have a backup to go back to.

6. Add new slot for “Mesh Guide” in the gFur component, “g Fur Mesh” section, Guide Meshes.
7. Drag and drop “RedDeer_MeshGuide01” to the slot created in step 6.)
8. Repeat steps 6-7 for other “Mesh Guide” meshes
9. Done!
